Walgreens ad and scenario for the week of 03/28

Walgreens Ad for this week

There are some pretty good deals on Easter Candy sales too, you just have to use the in ad coupon when you check out to get the deal.  This is why I carry a pair of scissors with me, so I can cut the in ad coupons out and make sure the cashier takes them off.  Most will remember, but just in case..

An overview:

Betty Crocker Cake mixes, frosting and the warm delights are on sale for 1.00 Ea.  There is a coupon for .50/1 Betty Crocker Warm delights.

Airwick air fresheners on sale for 3.99   There is a 4.00/1 coupon out there.

Bic Razors are on sale for 3.99.  There is a 3.00/1 coupon

Hall's cough drops are on sale for .99 (use the 1.00/1 Halls from today's paper)

The new Dove Shampoo and Conditioner is 4.00 and you get 4.00 in Register Rewards.

12 Rolls of Cottonelle toilet paper is 4.00.  Use the 1.00/1 coupon out of this month's all you magazine

The largest (96 loads) of all is on sale for 9.99.  There is a 2.00 off coupon out there.

So my scenario looks like this:

1st Transaction:

Dove Shampoo 4.00 (get back 4.00 in RR.. making this free)

Total: 4.00
Total oop:  4.00

2nd Transaction:
Dove Conditioner  4.00
Betty Crocker Warm Delight  1.00
(2) Airwick Air Freshners 3.99 ea :: 7.98
Bic Razors  3.99
Hall's Cough Drops  .99 (with in ad coupon)
12 Roll pack of Cottonelle  4.00

Total:  21.96

Minus:
4.00 RR from first order
.50/1 Betty Crocker Warm Delights
(2) 4.00 off Airwick Air Fresheners  (couple of weeks ago paper)
3.00/1 Bic Razors (last sundays paper)
1.00/1 Hall's cough drop (from today's paper)
1.00/1 Cottonelle from the All you Magazine

Total oop:  4.46  (and you get another 4.00 RR from buying the conditioner to spend on your next visit) Sooo essentially .46 + tax.  So including the first order you get
Dove Shampoo and Conditioner
12 pack of  toilet paper
Pack of Razors
(2) Airwick Air Fresheners
Bag of Hall's cough drops For a total of 4.46.

Can't beat that!

You may be able to figure out your own kind of deals from the ad.. and also if you have any register rewards left over from your last visit use it on your first transaction and make that cheap/free.

Hope you all got your papers today for the 3.00/1 snuggle!   Also, the All You magazine that I refer to, you can purchase it at Walmart and it always has TONS of coupons in it every month!  I subscribe at 12.00/a year.  It always pays for the subscription in the first magazine you get!  Plus.. the magazine is a GREAT magazine too!

Till next time..

Tips for getting the coupons on products you most desire/use

I know I have said in the past for you NOT to be brand loyal.  We all have our products that we will ONLY use that name brand.  Here's where your computer or your phone come in handy.  Let the company know how much you love their product, how brand loyal you are regardless of the cost.  THEN.. let them know that you NEVER see coupons in the Sunday paper for their product (but only if that's the truth).  I have a particular sausage brand and it's the only sausage I will buy.  However, I never did see coupons for it!  I emailed the company and told them I use at minimum 1 package of their sausage a week and I am very brand loyal to them, praise them etc etc but I never see coupons for their product.  About 2 weeks later in the mail I got (6) .25 off coupons (no, not a lot but doubled at Kroger all totaled it saved me 3.00.. or got me one roll of sausage free) and about 10 recipes that included their sausage.

Pick up the phone... email them... it WILL pay off.  I'm not saying you should specifically email every company that you can possibly think of and ask them outright for coupons, but you should praise those that you are loyal to and you might just be rewarded!

I emailed a particular cereal company and told them that I LOVE their cereal but never see coupons for it.. they sent me a 1.00/1 coupon and 6 trial size boxes.  Then.. about 2 months later I got another set of coupons from them, I think it had (3) 1.00/2 coupons in it.  No, not a ton of money but again, in the long haul I got a couple of free boxes of cereal AND I had (6) trial boxes that were perfect for the camper!

We don't hesitate to let a company/person know when we're irritated with them, let's let that company/person know when they've done well!

Till next time......

Next week looks awesome AND Get plenty of copies of next Sunday's paper because there will be a coupon in there for 3.00/1 Snuggle fabric softener.  This makes it free at most all family Dollars, or Dollar Generals.  They usually have the dryer sheets for 3.00 and the liquid for 3.00.  I am ordering 50 inserts next week!!!!!!  This will keep me in dryer sheets for a year AND give me some to sell at my yard sale the end of April!

So here's about all I can see for this week!  If you have multiple coupons, you'll get loads of razors to stock up on!!  Here's what I'm getting...

Walgreens sale is buy Quench lotion get in shower lotion free -4.99
Hunts coupon (fun game to play to get it too) 1.00/3 Hunts tomato sauce
THEN.. go HERE to print out a mail in rebate for the 7.99 back for the Quench Lotion.

Total oop:  8.98 + tax (plus remember to use any register rewards you might have, before they expire.. so if you have one from the colgate last week apply that 4.00 here and your oop is 4.98) But remember you'll also have a $7.99 rebate check coming from Olay.  So essentially you'll get all of that for .99

Something else to consider is there are some 2.00/1 ALL coupons out there and they do have it on sale for 3.99.. so that could be a decent deal.

Couple of Freebies to post for tonight before I go to bed!

Here are a couple of "Freebies" for ya!

My FAVORITE site,  Right@Home is giving away FREE Spring Cleaning gift packs to the first 10,000 to respond.  I get tons of freebies from here!  I have gotten a full pack of pledge wipes, Glade candles, a 10 pack of ziploc baggies, and 2 off mosquito repelent things that you wear.  This is the best site to ever sign up with!

Again, they ask for your phone number, just simply omit it.

Couponing Tips to lower your grocery/shopping bills!!!

Couponing tips to lower your grocery bill.

Some of these are obvious, but bears repeating!

1.  Get a coupon organizer.  Some people use envelopes, folders with labels, a case-it binder (like mine, and pictured in a previous post) Index card holder, accordian file or large wallet, or even one of those cheapie organizer for a buck at the dollar store.

2.  Figure out what works best for you as far as labeling goes... I personally use a binder and use tabs for Pantry, fridge, makeup, cleaning, smell goods, etc.  I then use baseball card sheets (and some photo sheets to hold larger coupons) and I put them in the appropriate section by what I call an item.  For example.. In the pantry section I put all "chips" in the C area, because that's what I call potato chips.  I put Grands Biscuits in the Fridge section in the B area, because I say Biscuits.

3.  If you go with a binder, get a zip three ring pencil holder to put in there, I have in mine, a magnifying glass (some of the exp dates are hard to see for me) a small pair of scissors, a calculator and a pen.

4.  Find stores with the best and most generous coupon policies.  I personally use Kroger because they double coupons, BUT.. some items are cheaper at Walmart even without the coupon being doubled.  Know your stores and their policies.  For example:  My kroger will only double 2 like coupons.  If I have 5 .50 coupons off of angel soft toilet tissue(1.00 a piece), and I buy five.. I am only getting 2 of them for free.. the other 3 would cost me .50 each.  IN this situation I would ring up 2 separate orders, and get 4 free and come back another time and get the 5th one.  This is what works for me.

5.  Combine your coupons with sales items.  For example:  Pop secret popcorn is on sale at Kroger 10/10.00 (you do NOT have to buy 10 of that one item to get the sale price, they all ring up at 1.00 each) I use my (2) .50 coupons (which are doubled) to get them free.  Maybe I already have 2 boxes at home.. that's okay.. this is part of "stockpiling".

6.  Check out online coupons and booklets.  You can add online coupons to your Kroger card, AND use a paper coupon as well.  Most likely netting you the item for free.  I use 2 places  www.shortcuts.com and www.cellfire.com  They do other stores than Kroger (Kroger is just all I have in my area)

7.  Know that whatever coupons you get in this sundays paper are likely to be on sale in the next 2 weeks.  DO NOT pitch them because the item isn't on sale now, and also hold off on using them until you can combine them with store sales unless you just absolutely need it now.

8.  Print coupons online (These are called IP's.. Internet Printables) There are usually some awesome coupons to be found.   A lot of times you can just google "printable coupon for xxxxx" and it will bring up something.  Also check out your favorite products website ex:  www.bettycrocker.com  They most always have printable coupons so you'll try their product.  Below is a list of places I go to print off coupons::::

www.redplum.com
www.smartsource.com
www.upons.com
www.couponmom.com

9.  Buy in bulk for items that are free/super cheap.  This is part of stockpiling.  As I've mentioned before, if you can get 20 cans of spaghetti sauce for free.. then do it!!!  However, don't stockpile or buy items you don't normally use just because you can make it cheap.. however, if you can make it free, get it!  Someone probably uses it, and if no one in your family does, then donate it to a shelter.

10.  Buy enough of a product cheap/free so that it should last you till the next sale.  Sales are cyclic.. you can bet the super cheap spaghetti sauce is going to be super cheap again within 6-8 weeks.  Make sure you have enough to last.

11.  Invest in a freezer!  Purchase all your meat on sale and freeze it.  Tip** When freezing a pound of hamburger, press your thumb into the center of the meat, making a large indentation.. this will help your meat thaw faster.

12.  Be somewhat flexible about your purchases.  You may find a product slightly cheaper (or maybe even more expensive but with the coupon makes it cheaper) that is even better than your usual!  Ex:  I used to only buy Ragu, till about 15 years ago when I had a coupon for Prego.. now I use nothing BUT Prego.  There are always products we will never budge on.. mine are Heinz Ketchup, Kraft American Cheese slices and Prego lol

13.  Keep your coupons on you at all times!  You never know when you're going to come across a deal and wish you had your coupons!  This is especially true when roaming the drug store, they clearance out items so frequently that you've almost always got a coupon for it, making that shampoo that they're simply bringing out a new bottle design on and now have on clearance for 1.00.. FREE!

14.  Review your spending habits.  If you're going to the grocery store 3 times a week.. STOP IT!  Figure out a time that you can go in (after you've viewed sales ads and planned your weekly or monthly menus) and get everything you need.  Yes, I know there's going to be quick trips for milk, bread etc in between, but no reason you're going every other day to buy that night's supper fixings... if you're doing it that way, it's cheaper to eat McDonalds!

15.  NEVER NEVER NEVER shop online without first finding a discount code.  My daughter LOVES/prefers American Eagle.. I always find a discount code when ordering her clothes.  You can find discount codes by going to google and typing in, "American Eagle discount code" or whatever other store.    Here are some places I typically find discounts for ANYWHERE I shop online at:

www.retailmenot.com
www.couponcabin.com
www.promotioncode.org

If you're paying shipping or not getting at least a 15% discount by taking 2 minutes to search online for one, then you're nutso my friend!! lol

There is so much FREE money out there, in the form of coupons, codes, rebates etc.  Isn't it time you take advantage of that??

Till next time...

Menu/Meal planning & a Crockpot Recipe that's just yummy!!!

What is the single most important Grocery Saving thing you can do?

The answer is simple.. Menu/Meal planning!

Every single week I base what meals we're going to have on what items are on sale and I have a coupon for.

I think the biggest mistake we as working parents make is the "it's way faster to order pizza/get McDonalds then it is for my tired self to make dinner".

This is where your crock pot comes in handy! I highly recommend that at least 1 of your meals a week comes from your crockpot!  Another thing you should do is make "2-day" meals.

I am going to put together some crock-pot meals that you can start before you leave for work and when you get home.. supper's done!!

Here is my first example.

Vegetable Beef Soup
1 package of Stew Meat   (3.57 on sale) (I bought it on sale and froze it)
1 can corn
1 can butter beans
1 can peas
1 can green beans
1 can carrots
(for all of the above Kroger had Delmonte 5 cans for 2.00.. I had a coupon for 1.00/5 cans.. so those cost me 1.00)
6-8 medium size potatos (I got a five pound bag for 1.67 @ walmart)
1 large bottle of v-8 juice (was on sale 2/5.00 and I had a .50/1 coupon)

Total cost for meal:  $8.24 (and this meal is eatten 2 days in a row at my house, so I have fed a family of 4, 2 meals at $1.03 per person per day.

(You can also freeze individual size portions and you now have a quick lunch/supper whenever you need it.)

I am not including the price of the Ritz crackers that we use because I got them free.

Now, on to how you make your meal.

I cut the stew meat into smaller pieces than what the store does (I personally like smaller chunks)

I then brown them for about 1 minute in a sizzling hot skillet with a little bit of oil in it.  (The meat should sizzle when you dump it in your pan.. this is quick browning and it locks in the juices and flavors)

I then pour onto a paper plate with a paper towel on it to absorb what little bit of oil is on it.  In the meantime..

Peel the potatos and put them on the bottom of your crockpot (I use a 7 quart crockpot)
Then pour the meat on top of the potatos.. then pour in each can of vegetable (pour all the juice in too)
Then pour the V8 juice in last.  At about a tablespoon of black pepper, put it on high... for 8-9 hours.. go to work.

Come in your house and the house smells amazing!  Supper is done.. have a few bowls as dishes that night.  Voila!

Turn the crockpot off, and let cool down to about room temp (couple of hours) then put in a sauce pan and put in the fridge.

Next night you come home from work, put it on the stove top, heat up.. 15 minutes later supper is done again!

When you plan out meals like this, it makes it much easier to say... On Friday night let's just order a pizza in.  (BUT.. always use a coupon or get the "deals" at your local pizza place too)

Imagine if you could spend 8.24 every two days on meals for your family.  Wow!

I'm gonna work on making this meal choices available to you!

Let me know if you try this and let me know what you think.  It's not a recipe out of a book, it's mine.. and don't use tomato juice in place of the v8.  The V8 is what gives it a kick!

Love it!

Till next time...

Scenarios and deals for the week of 2-28-10

You should have $2.00 RR from last week, if not $6.00 to start this week with.  If you do, remember to throw in a cheapie item with your transaction because each coupon (and RR are counted as a coupon) requires 1 item purchased.

(1) Altoids (on sale) .49
Use your $2.00 RR from last week
Total: oop 3.48 + tax
And you get a 3.00 Register Reward (so it's like paying .48)

***If you do not have the 2.00 RR from last weeks scenarios, then just skip the altoid's here and you will pay 4.99 + tax oop***

2nd Transaction:

AND you get 1.00 RR for the purex, 1.00 RR for the speedstick and a 2.00 RR for the toothpaste.
Total RR is 4.00.

3rd Transaction:

You can do a couple of different things.. you can go get more Purex sheets or another razor etc.  I personally am going to do this for my 3rd transaction:

(2) Purex 3 in 1 sheets 9.00
(use b1g1 coupon)
(3) Altoids on sale for .49 = 1.47
Use 4.00 in Register Rewards and your total oop is : $1.97 (and you get a 1.00 RR for buying the purex)

(1) Schick Intuition Razor (8.99)
(1) Colgate Toothpaste (2.99)
(1) Speedstick deo (1.99)
(4) Altoids (1.96)
Total $51.93 + tax
Actual OOP spent by you:  $9.94

**I had a $4.00 RR left from last weeks razor, so my personal oop is $5.94.. not all of you had that though, so I did not include it**

PLUS.. you should still have a $1.00 RR to start next week with.

Do these transactions for as many times as you have coupons (I will be doing these ten times.. my total oop will be around 37.00.  Without coupons and register rewards MY oop would be...Close to 500.00.

"But clipping coupons really isn't worth it...."

A patient came in the office today who apparently saw me at Kroger on Friday.. with my Case It Binder with a strap.  She said, "Oh I saw all your coupons.. you really are serious aren't you?!!?"

Why yes I am lol

Then she said the one thing I never understand.."But.. clipping coupons really isn't worth it".  She went on to say, "I can't see using a coupon for .30 of a can of biscuits being worth it.. it's just .30".  At this point I have to use mucho restraint because she's just not thinking it through!!

Let's say you're like me and use one can of biscuits a week on average (sunday brunch of biscuits and gravy.. yummmmy)

Can of biscuits.. 1.25 x 52 weeks = 65.00
Coupon for can of biscuits... .30 x 52 weeks = 15.60
Use that coupon at a store that doubles coupons, such as Kroger then your savings are even more substantial at = 32.50.

You have to look at the big picture.  I am huge believer in "DO NOT BUY THAT ITEM JUST CAUSE YOU HAVE A COUPON.. BUY IT CAUSE YOU HAVE A COUPON AND YOU USE IT".

I also totally plan my meals around what coupons are available that week or on what I've been able to stockpile.  Let's talk about Stockpiling for a minute.

Spaghetti sauce is 2.99 a jar.  Kroger has a famous 10/10 sale.  You have .50 coupons on Spaghetti sauce.  You then buy 20 jars of Spaghetti sauce.  Yes.. you do.  You now have Spaghetti sauce for a year.  AND.. it's free.  Because it was on sale, you had a coupon, you bought it at a store that doubles.. you don't have to pay 2.99 for Spaghetti sauce again for a year.  AND.. since sales run on a bit of a cycle, by the time you start running low it's another sale like that.

Purex 3-in-1 sheets are on sale B1G1 free.. there is a coupon out there for b1g1 free on Purex sheets.. This makes this FREE at this store people!!!!  You get your hands on 25 of these coupons and you get 50 packages of laundry soap FOR FREE.

Same with canned goods, smell goods, shampoo, razors.. etc.  There is no reason to pay full price for ANYTHING except meat and milk and bread (usually you don't get coupons on those, but then again, you should buy almost all of your meat only when on sale)

The best investment you can get is a storage shelf system and a deep freeze.

Listen.. you may think why bother clipping that .30 coupon.. it's just .30.  It's not though.

If you ONLY save 10.00 a week on your grocery bill that's 520.00 a year (trust me, if you get serious you'll save way more than that.. but even if you want to be a casual couponer, that would be the minimum of what you could save) I don't know about you but that's a car payment a half for me!

Don't de-value your coupons folks!  Think about the long term.  Again, I do stress that you shouldn't buy something you might not use "just cause there's a coupon for it".

I do buy things I wouldn't normally buy because I have a coupon and because the deal/coupon will make the item FREE.  If I can't use it, someone can.

Till next time...
